The story so far
What we know about Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror - Reforged
Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror: Reforged is a remaster of the 1997 point-and-click adventure Broken Sword II, developed and published by Revolution Software. It was announced on 6 October 2025 as a follow-up to the studio's earlier Reforged release of the first game. Players again control American tourist George Stobbart and French journalist Nico Collard, who are drawn into a conspiracy involving Mayan artifacts and a supernatural threat.
The Steam page lists 4K remastered visuals with a toggle back to the original artwork, fully voiced dialogue and a remastered soundtrack by the late composer Barrington Pheloung. Accessibility options include mouse, controller and touchscreen controls, integrated hints, a dialogue history and a customisable interface. Bonus content with restored dialogue and unlockable secrets is also listed. Coverage of the announcement describes a new story mode that gives subtle puzzle hints for players who mainly want the narrative.
No release date has been announced. The game was first given an early 2026 window, but the Steam page now only says Coming soon. A Collector's Edition Kickstarter ran from 9 April to 7 May 2026 and raised 743,138 pounds, with digital rewards planned for September 2026 according to coverage of the campaign. Red Art Games has announced physical editions for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch, listed for 19 February 2027.
