What we know about Professor Layton and the New World of Steam
Professor Layton and the New World of Steam is a puzzle-adventure game developed and published by Level-5. It is the first mainline entry in the series since the 2017 spin-off Layton Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaire's Conspiracy, and it brings back Professor Hershel Layton and his apprentice Luke Triton. The game was first revealed in February 2023.
The story takes place one year after Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, in Steam Bison, a rapidly growing American town powered by steam technology. According to the official site, a mysterious incident there draws Layton and Luke into their next adventure. Twin sisters Elinora and Elida Allinston are among the new characters. The puzzles are created together with the Japanese quiz group QuizKnock, and the theme song combines music by Joe Hisaishi with vocals by Lilas of YOASOBI.
The release date of 10 December 2026 was announced during the Nintendo Direct on 9 September 2026. The game launches on Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PS5 and PC via Steam; the PS5 and PC versions were added in April 2026,, alongside a late 2026 launch window. The official site lists English, Japanese, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Korean and Traditional and Simplified Chinese. Price had not been announced at the time of writing.
