What we know about Showa American Story
Showa American Story is an action RPG from NEKCOM, published by 4Divinity, with 2P Games listed for Asia excluding Japan. It is set in an alternate late 1980s in which Japan has bought out much of the United States and its culture has spread across the continent. A catastrophic incident then ends the social order, and a teenage girl, Chigusa Choko, revives from the dead to find a post-apocalyptic America of zombies, monsters and survivors with different beliefs.
The Steam page describes fast-paced combat against hordes of enemies, with melee weapons, firearms and stranger contraptions that can be mixed and matched. Between fights, Choko travels in a large RV that serves as a home base, takes on main and side quests, and improves her stats through Daily Activities and era-themed mini-games. Dialogue choices are also said to affect the world and relationships.
The game was first aimed at 2025 and is now listed for 2026 without an exact date. A new trailer debuted at gamescom Opening Night Live in August 2026, and the Steam page, which lists only PC, shows Planned Release Date as 2026. PS5 is named in the gamescom announcement coverage. Steam lists full audio in English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese.
