The story so far
What we know about Muramasa: Revenant Blades
Muramasa: Revenant Blades is a side-scrolling action RPG from Vanillaware, published by Marvelous (Marvelous USA and XSEED Games in the Americas). It is an updated revival of the Vita game Muramasa Rebirth, set in Japan's Genroku period and told through a fairy-tale art style. It was announced on 9 June 2026 during a Nintendo Direct.
All six playable characters, including Momohime and Kisuke, are available from the start, each with their own story that can be played in any order. The game offers updated controls, more than 100 swords to forge and dozens of skills to upgrade and customise. Visuals are upgraded to support up to 4K, and new gameplay modes sit alongside the original experience, including a Reminisce mode described by Gematsu.
Revenant Blades launches on 4 February 2027 for PS5, Switch 2, Switch and PC via Steam, which marks Vanillaware's first release on PC. It adds a new English localisation with English voiceover for the first time, and reports mention support for ten languages. Standard editions cost $49.99 on PS5 and Switch and $59.99 on Switch 2 in North America, and EUR 49.99 in Europe. A Limited Edition adds an artbook, a soundtrack CD and a folding screen.
