The story so far
What we know about Witchbrook
Witchbrook is a life simulation game about training to become a witch. The player creates a character and starts studying at Witchbrook College, located in the seaside town of Mossport. Between lessons there is a whole town to explore, with neighbours to befriend, romances to pursue and a cottage and garden to make your own.
The game is made by Chucklefish, the studio behind Starbound and publisher of Stardew Valley, together with the co-developer Robotality. It was first teased in 2017 and re-revealed with a proper trailer during a Nintendo Direct on 27 March 2025. The visuals are isometric pixel art, and the world is meant to feel alive, with seasons that change the town and residents who follow daily routines.
According to the developer, magic is part of everyday life rather than a side feature. Players are expected to attend classes, cast spells, brew potions and use those skills to earn a living and support the community. Crafting, fishing and running a small business are also listed. The game can be played alone or online with up to four players. Witchbrook was originally planned for winter 2025, but was delayed on 15 October 2025 and is now aimed at 2026. Chucklefish has said it will announce an exact date only when it is fully confident. The studio has also stated a four-day work week and a no-crunch policy.
What to expect from Witchbrook
Based on what the developer and publisher have shown so far.
- 01
Life at a witch college
You play a student at Witchbrook College, attending magic classes and building skills over time. According to the developer, studies are a core part of the daily rhythm in Mossport.
- 02
A living town
Mossport is described as a seaside city with surrounding woodlands, where residents have routines and the seasons change the world. Friendships and romance with the townsfolk are listed features.
- 03
Spells, potions and work
So far the game lists spellcasting, potion brewing, crafting, fishing and running a business as ways to earn a living and help the community, rather than combat-focused progression.
- 04
Co-op and your own home
Up to four players can share the world online. You can also customise your character, your cottage and garden, so the game works both as a solo cozy sim and as a shared one.
