What we know about Silent Planet: Elegy of a Dying World
Silent Planet: Elegy of a Dying World is a gothic science-fiction metroidvania from the Canadian indie studio Vertex Zero, published by Red Dunes Games. The publishing deal was announced on 30 October 2024. It is set in the year 2997, where players control Apranik on a mission to the planet Thulcandra to find the Angel's Egg, an ancient artifact believed to be the source of all life in the universe.
The adventure unfolds in a claustrophobic underground megacomplex filled with the remnants of technological and biological horrors left by a dead civilization. Steam lists melee and psychokinetic weapons, layered RPG systems with progression trees, dynamic environments that react to the player, and artifacts that reveal the lost chronicles of an alien civilization. The developer has also highlighted a three-layer exploration system that shifts between foreground, midground and background, and cites Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Super Metroid as inspirations.
No exact release date has been announced. The game is listed as Q2 2027 on Steam, where it is the first platform, and an extended trailer was released in May 2026. Some outlets list PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as well, but the Steam page shows Windows only and no console date has been given. The Steam page lists English with full audio, plus French, Spanish, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Brazilian Portuguese and Korean text.
