A horror experience that feels like Hellraiser#

Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival is a first-person survival horror game from Saber Interactive, released on 8 October 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. You play Aidan, who uses a puzzle box called the Genesis Configuration to try to pull his girlfriend Sunny out of the Labyrinth, and starts Pinhead's ritual by accident. Doug Bradley returns as Pinhead, and Clive Barker helped write the story.

We really like how the game captures the dark, twisted feel of the films. The grotesque environments and Pinhead's presence are the highlights, and the mood weighs heavily for us. As a brutal, unsettling horror experience, we think it delivers very well.

What holds it back#

To us, combat sometimes feels stiff, and some boss fights could have been shorter. There are things to polish. These are the same areas several critics point to: a slow start, repetitive design and checkpoints that interrupt play. Some critics found the design choices made it hard to keep playing, and others report recurring visual and audio glitches, including in the finale. Hard difficulty is described as unbalanced, and there is no New Game Plus.

Where the critics land#

Reviews are sharply split, with scores from 4.5 to 9 out of 10. Aggregate scores sit around 70 and differ by platform and site. Praise almost always points to the Labyrinth, the Cenobites, the sound and Bradley's performance, while criticism targets pacing, combat and technical state. We land above that average at 8 because the mood weighs so heavily for us.

Gore and tone#

The game ties combat and mechanics to suffering, which suits Hellraiser but not every player. Several critics note that the gore and uncomfortable content may not suit everyone. If graphic horror is a dealbreaker, this is not the game for you.

Price and platforms#

The standard edition costs $39.99 in the US and £34.99 in the UK, and a Deluxe Edition was announced at $49.99. Xbox Play Anywhere support means buying on Xbox also covers the PC version. Some databases list a Switch 2 version, but the launch materials name PC, PS5 and Xbox, so check your store page.

The Game Avant verdict#

Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival captures the dark, twisted feel of the films, and the mood carries the game. Grotesque environments and Pinhead's presence are the highlights. Stiff combat and a few overlong boss fights keep it from being the best of the genre, but as a brutal, unsettling horror experience we think it delivers very well.

8 out of 10 – brutal, unsettling and true to Hellraiser, with combat that could be sharper.
