Nintendo Switch 2 is built for playing together: two players can share one screen with detached Joy-Con 2, friends can join over GameShare with a single copy, and GameChat keeps everyone talking. The best co-op games on the system range from story-driven duos to chaotic party platformers and big online survival sandboxes, with upgraded editions of proven favorites sitting beside new Nintendo releases, so couch co-op and online coop games are both covered.

1. Split Fiction#

Hazelight Studios' Split Fiction puts two players in the roles of Mio and Zoe, writers trapped in a machine that merges their sci-fi and fantasy stories. Every level invents new mechanics for both of you, from grappling hooks to dragon rides, and the pacing never stalls. It arrived on Switch 2 in June 2025 and works with a free Friend's Pass, so only one person needs to own it. It is a strictly two-player adventure with no solo option, and the tone swings between earnest and silly, but it is the best co-op showpiece on the system.

2. Donkey Kong Bananza#

Nintendo EPD's Donkey Kong Bananza, launched in July 2025 as a Switch 2 exclusive, lets Donkey Kong smash, tunnel and punch through almost every surface of a fully destructible world. A second player can join as Pauline, who fires projectiles and helps with support, and the game can be played locally or online. It is a generous 3D platformer with inventive boss fights and a satisfying sense of weight. The co-op role is an assist rather than an equal partner, so it suits a parent and child more than two seasoned players looking for a true duo.

3. Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park#

Super Mario Bros. Wonder, from Nintendo EPD, brought the 2D Mario formula to life with the Wonder Flower, a sudden twist that warps a level in surprising ways. Up to four players can run through each course together, and the Switch 2 Edition, released in March 2026, adds the Meetup in Bellabel Park expansion with new co-op and competitive attractions. It is bright, funny and endlessly creative. With four players the screen becomes chaotic and some players will get in each other's way, so it works best with relaxed friends or family.

4. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury#

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, developed by Nintendo EPD and first released on Switch in February 2021, pairs a four-player 3D platformer with a separate open-world adventure. In 3D World, Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad each have their own abilities, and the level design rewards experimentation and quick reflexes. In Bowser's Fury, a second player can control Bowser Jr. and help the lead. A free update on Switch 2 in June 2025 improved image quality and added GameShare and GameChat. The four-player levels can be chaotic, and Bowser's Fury is mainly a solo adventure with support for a partner.

5. Overcooked! 2#

Overcooked! 2, from Ghost Town Games and Team17, asks up to four players to cook, chop, plate and wash up in kitchens that change, split or move beneath their feet. Orders pile up, communication breaks down and friendships are tested in the best way. A Switch 2 edition arrived in November 2025 and supports local and online play, along with the game's two-versus-two mode. Some later levels can feel unfair when one player is weaker, and the shouting will not suit everyone, but it remains the defining party co-op game of the past decade.

6. Stardew Valley#

ConcernedApe's Stardew Valley is a farming, mining and relationship simulator that turns into a shared homestead in multiplayer. The Switch 2 Edition, released in December 2025, adds mouse controls, local split-screen for up to four players and online play for up to eight. Friends can split chores, fish, fight in the mines and decorate a shared farm at their own pace. The interface takes time to learn, and the real-time clock pushes you to plan your days, but it is a gentle, endlessly replayable way to spend hours together.

7. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment#

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, developed by Koei Tecmo Games and published by Nintendo, launched in November 2025 on Switch 2. It is a musou-style action game set in the ancient past of Tears of the Kingdom, where you cut through huge crowds with Zelda and other heroes. Two players can fight side by side through split-screen, online play or GameShare. The combat is flashy and easy to learn, and the story fills in Zelda lore. Repetition sets in over long sessions, and musou sceptics will not be converted.

8. Valheim#

Valheim, from Iron Gate and Coffee Stain Studios, is a Norse survival game where you build a longhouse, sail the seas, hunt bosses and craft better gear. It is at its best with a group, and the game supports up to ten players with crossplay. It arrived on Switch 2 in September 2026, alongside the 1.0 release. The deliberately old-school visuals suit the hardware and give every hall a distinct character. Progression is slow, and the early hours involve a lot of grinding and dying, so it is best for patient groups who like to plan an expedition.

9. Core Keeper#

Core Keeper, from Pugstorm, is a top-down survival sandbox set in an underground cavern, where you mine, farm, fish, cook and fight bosses in a world that grows more dangerous as you dig. The Switch 2 Edition, released in January 2026, supports up to eight players in co-op and targets 60 frames per second with improved lighting. It is a friendlier cousin to Terraria, with a clear progression and a colorful art style. The early game can feel directionless, and the crafting menus are busy, but a group of friends can easily lose a weekend to it.

10. Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time#

Level-5's Fantasy Life i is a cozy life-sim RPG where you pick jobs such as woodcutter, miner and cook, build an island, explore dungeons and travel through time. The Switch 2 Edition supports up to four players online, and a two-player family mode lets a friend join with a second controller. It is relaxed, colorful and packed with things to do together, from gathering to fighting bosses. The opening hours are slow, the quests repeat, and it asks for a lot of patience, but it is ideal for couples and families who like a shared long-term project.

11. Human: Fall Flat#

Human: Fall Flat, from No Brakes Games, is a physics platformer where wobbly characters climb, swing and lug objects through floating dream worlds. Solving puzzles with friends turns into slapstick, as everyone tries different solutions at once. The Switch 2 Edition adds extra levels and improves performance and resolution, and up to eight players can join online. Controls are intentionally clumsy, and that can frustrate anyone who expects precision, but the laughs come easily and the puzzles give groups of any skill level room to improvise.

12. Factorio#

Factorio, from Wube Software, is a factory-building game where you launch a rocket by mining, refining and automating everything around you. The Switch 2 Edition, released in December 2025, improves resolution and performance, allows larger bases and keeps the cooperative multiplayer that lets friends share a factory and split tasks. Working together on logistics and defense is deeply satisfying. It has a steep learning curve and can swallow entire evenings, so it is not for anyone who wants a quick, casual session, but the depth is remarkable.
