The PS5 is one of the strongest places to play together, with the DualSense, fast loading and a library that mixes couch co-op, online squads and split-screen classics. Whether you want a two-player story, a four-player shooter or a big-hearted brawler, these coop games for PS5 have a pick for it.
1. It Takes Two#
Hazelight's It Takes Two arrived in March 2021 and is built entirely around two players, with a couple on the verge of divorce turned into dolls and forced to cooperate through a constantly changing run of mechanics. Almost every level introduces a new idea, from time manipulation to a tree-house war, and it won Game of the Year at The Game Awards. A Friend's Pass lets a second player join online for free. There is no solo mode, and the tone and humor can grate, so skip it if you rarely play with one specific partner.
2. Split Fiction#
Hazelight followed up in March 2025 with Split Fiction, again strictly for two players. Two writers, Mio and Zoe, are trapped in a machine that mashes their sci-fi and fantasy stories together, and the game keeps swapping genres, perspectives and controls every few minutes. It is the most inventive co-op campaign on the platform, and the Friend's Pass returns. It is fairly short, and it cannot be played alone or with more than two.
3. Baldur's Gate III#
Larian Studios released Baldur's Gate III on PS5 in September 2023 after its PC debut, and it supports up to four players online, plus split-screen on console. A deep Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game, it lets friends tackle a huge campaign with real consequences for every choice, and it won Game of the Year at The Game Awards. Co-op means long sessions and endless dialogue. It is enormous, and the third act can strain performance, so it suits groups with time to commit.
4. Deep Rock Galactic#
Ghost Ship Games' Deep Rock Galactic reached PS5 in January 2022 and sends up to four dwarven miners into procedurally generated caves. Each of the four classes has a clear role, from Drillers carving tunnels to Scouts lighting the way, and the pace of digging, fighting and extracting under pressure is exceptional. The DualSense touchpad is used for the terrain scanner. Missions repeat their structure over time, and it is strongest with friends who use voice chat, so solo players will miss a lot.
5. Elden Ring#
FromSoftware's Elden Ring launched in February 2022 and lets players summon friends or strangers to help with bosses using summoning signs, with up to three players in a session. The Lands Between is one of the most admired open worlds in recent years, and sharing a tough fight is half the fun. Co-op is restrictive: progress belongs to the host, you need specific items, and level ranges apply. It works better as an occasional support tool than as a full co-op campaign, and it remains brutally difficult.
6. LEGO Voyagers#
Light Brick Studio's LEGO Voyagers came out in September 2025 and puts two players in the shoes of small 1x1 bricks that work together to repair a spaceship. It is a gentle puzzle-platformer that supports local and online play, with a Friend's Pass for online partners, and its warm, wordless storytelling makes it a good fit for families or couples. It is short and fairly easy, so experienced players may want more challenge. Two players only.
7. Granblue Fantasy: Relink#
Cygames released Granblue Fantasy: Relink in February 2024, an action role-playing game in which up to four players fight huge monsters as members of a sky-faring crew. Each character plays very differently, the combat is flashy and readable, and online lobbies are simple to set up. The story is light and the quest structure repeats after the campaign ends. It is a good pick for players who love Japanese action role-playing games and want quick, stylish sessions with friends.
8. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga#
TT Games' LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga arrived in April 2022 and covers all nine main films in an open hub design. Two players can tackle the campaign together in local split-screen, sharing puzzles and brick-smashing combat across dozens of planets. The roster of playable characters is vast, and it is easy to pick up for mixed-age groups. Online co-op is not offered, and the game has a fair number of rough edges and some repetitive missions.
9. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge#
Tribute Games and Dotemu released Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge in June 2022 (a native PS5 version followed in November 2022), a 2D brawler inspired by the arcade classics. Up to six players can join locally or online, which makes the screen chaotic in the best way, with big pixel art, a great soundtrack and a lovely sense of nostalgia. Runs take only a couple of hours, and the combat is shallow compared with modern brawlers, so it suits quick, casual nights.
10. Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy#
Frozenbyte's Trine 5 came out in August 2023 and lets up to three players control a wizard, a thief and a knight in a physics-based puzzle-platformer. Each hero brings different abilities, and there are often several ways to solve a room, which encourages experimentation. The hand-painted fairy-tale world is gorgeous. The story is forgettable and the difficulty is mild, so it is best for relaxed co-op with friends or family rather than a hard challenge.
11. Zombie Army 4: Dead War#
Rebellion released Zombie Army 4: Dead War in February 2020 (PS5 gets an upgraded version), a four-player co-op shooter set in an alternate-history Nazi zombie apocalypse. Sniping with the slow-motion X-ray kill camera is the signature, and campaign and Horde Mode can both be played with friends online. It plays well with a group and rewards coordinated weapon upgrades. The story is silly, the levels are linear, and the action becomes repetitive over a long session.
12. Contra: Operation Galuga#
WayForward's Contra: Operation Galuga launched in March 2024 and revives the classic run-and-gun series. Co-op is local only: two players can play Story Mode together, while Arcade Mode supports up to four, and the stages are packed with bosses and set pieces. It is fast, tough and respectful of the original games. Purists may find the extra modes and upgrades distracting, and some players will not enjoy the high difficulty and lives system.
13. Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time#
Level-5's Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time reached PS5 in May 2025. It is a cozy life-sim role-playing game where you choose from jobs such as miner, angler or mage, and you can adventure with up to four friends online. A two-player local mode also lets a companion join the adventure on the same console. It is relaxed, charming and endlessly busy, with plenty of crafting and collecting. The pace is slow, and the co-op experience is lighter than in dedicated multiplayer games.
