How to follow upcoming Switch 2 games#
The list above shows games with a confirmed Switch 2 release, sorted by date, and it changes as publishers update their plans. Release dates move often, especially for bigger games, so a date is a forecast until a game has gone gold. Nintendo and third-party publishers announce most of their games in Nintendo Directs and in their own showcases, and that is usually where new games, dates and platforms are confirmed first.
New games, Switch 2 Editions and backward compatibility#
The Nintendo Switch 2 launched in June 2025 and plays most original Switch games, so a game does not need to be built for Switch 2 to run on it. Many older games have also received a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, an upgraded version with a sharper resolution, a smoother frame rate or new features. When a game appears in the list, it is listed for its Switch 2 release. That can be a brand-new game, a port of a game from another platform or a Switch 2 edition of an existing game, and it is worth checking which one it is before you buy.
Physical, digital and the Game-Key Card#
The Switch 2 uses physical game cards, but not every physical release contains the whole game. Some use a Game-Key Card, which works as a key to a download, so you need an internet connection and storage space even if you buy in a shop. This is usually stated on the box. The size of a game is shown on its Nintendo eShop page, and the Switch 2 has plenty of built-in storage but may need a microSD Express card if you collect many large games.
